From the President As I look back on my tenure as the Nassau Chapter’s 50th president, I can’t help but feel total gratitude to all those members who have made this a terrific year. I would like to thank everyone who contributed their time and effort in helping to continue the long tradition of success this chapter has enjoyed. Our programs and events were well organized and well run. Interestingly enough, weather seemed to weave its way into some of our events this year. We had to endure a potential hurricane for our CPAs for a Cause 5K Run, and major snowstorms for our All-Day Federal and State and Local Tax Conference and our Officers Visitation Chapter meeting. Yet the organizers of these events adeptly navigated through these challenges, and our members found their way to these events to make them a success. The leaders of this chapter continue to search for new ideas and ways to create value for our members. One of our new initiatives this year, the college student mentoring program, continues to gain momentum and interest among participating colleges and universities and our CPA members. I would like to thank our committee chairs and active committee members for a job well done. I recognize and appreciate all the hard work it takes to deliver quality programs to our members. I would like to thank my fellow officers and Board members for their total support and commitment to the chapter and to me this past year. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to bring chapter matters to our Board meetings and receive a high level of feedback, comments and guidance from the Executive Board. Also not to be forgotten is the past leadership of the chapter. I never hesitated to call our past presidents, drawing on their experience and wisdom. Rob Pickus and Noelle Geiger, our newsletter co-editors, deserve enormous thanks from the chapter. The responsibility of publishing our chapter’s individual newsletter is arguably the hardest job within the chapter. The newsletter is the primary medium of communication to our members, and Rob and Noelle did an excellent job in ensuring its timely delivery. I would also like to extend my congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Chapter’s Distinguished Service Award, Fred Levine. Fred, one of our past presidents, continues to contribute his time and efforts to this chapter, and is well deserving of the award. Finally, I want to wish Bob Schaffer the best of luck as our incoming president. I have worked closely with Bob during this past year, and I know the chapter will be in good hands as he takes over the reins of one of the Society’s largest, most active and successful chapters. Our 51st annual Installation Dinner Dance will be held on Friday, May 7, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y. Please attend this event and show your support for Bob and the chapter. At the special presentation for the past presidents in January 2004, I remarked that each president of this chapter is symbolic of the energies and efforts of the many. Those words continue and will always ring true for this president. Thank you all. Richard Zerah can be reached at 516-735-4717 or rich@zerahco.com. |
