Northeast Chapter Springs into Action By Christine Paul, Northeast Chapter President-Elect As sure as the snow will melt and the sound of spring will be in the air, so will come the passing of yet another busy season. I hope you all had a successful and profitable busy season! The Northeast Chapter has made a great effort in the past year to reach out and educate not only college students about the accounting profession, but also high school students and guidance counselors. As suspected, there is a great desire for this information. The Cooperation with Educators Committee hosted its 3rd Annual Student Night in February. We had more than 140 people in attendance, of which approximately 25 were high school students and their counselors. This committee is also sponsoring an informational breakfast for guidance counselors in early May to continue the education process about the accounting profession so they can, in turn, educate their students. If any of you have children in high school, please encourage your child’s counselor to attend this breakfast. Also, many thanks to Suzanne Jensen and Bob Schneider, chairs of the chapter’s Not For Profit Committee, for sponsoring the “Protecting Your Organization from Fraud” program on March 17. The Executive Officers and Board of Directors of our chapter have tried to build committees that are able to serve all of our members, whether they are involved in public or private practices, small businesses or large businesses. Soon we will be rebuilding and restructuring our committees for the next year, and we want to address all of your concerns. If you find that we are not serving an area where you have an interest, or you have an interest in serving on a committee, please contact me. Enjoy the spring and some much-needed relaxation. Don’t forget about the golf tournament and officers installation dinner on May 16. |
