Manhattan/Bronx Chapter Keeps Active

By Barry Doll, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter President

Although we are in the midst of our busy season, your Manhattan/Bronx chapter continues to hold events. I’d like to provide a recap of what we’ve been up to lately and also provide information on future events.

On Jan. 5, the chapter held an IRS e-file clinic. Lillie Davenport, from the IRS, conducted the seminar for about 60 members. Lil was assisted by John Barovich, who spoke on e-filing for New York State. Chapter members Fred Slater and Peter D. Sheran provided anecdotes of their e-filing experiences.

On Jan. 26, the chapter cosponsored a credit card debt seminar with the Society’s Public Relations Committee. Presenters included member Ginger Broderick, Alan Franklin, president of American Credit Alliance Inc., and Steven Jurista, of Wasserman, Jurista & Stolz. We are very appreciative of the support from Citibank for hosting the seminar. More than 60 members attended this informative seminar.

On Feb. 3, the chapter held a Poetry and Pizza session at the Society. Members of the Manhattan/Bronx Chapter, the National Association of Black Accountants and friends met on Thursday, Feb. 3, to discuss some important issues: Longfellow and pizza. This was the third meeting of the Poets and Pizza society and all had a good time. Bill Aiken lifted our minds and spirits with renditions of his poetry, while Peter Frank swooned and tickled our senses with his singing of personal and popular tunes. As a bonus, Lelia Dickenson, from the Society staff, wowed us with Dr. Seuss and Edgar Allan Poe. A good time was had by all.

Coming up on April 19, the chapter will hold its first election dinner. We will have a speaker talking about baseball and baseball team ownership, and it promises to be an interesting event. Stay tuned for further details.

Start rubbing your lucky rabbit’s foot—the chapter is sponsoring a bus trip to Atlantic City, N.J., on May 6. Visit the chapter’s website at http://www.nysscpa.org/chapters.html for details. It should be a fun and hopefully profitable time.

The chapter’s final meeting of the fiscal year will be held on May 20. This will be an evening event and will include disco dancing, so start practicing. More details will be posted on the website.
