| The Holiday Season: A Time to Give and Get Involved By Cynthia D. Finn, Suffolk Chapter President It is more blessed to give than to receive.” No other time during the year is this statement more appropriate than during the holiday season. For the thirteenth year in a row, chapter members, contacts, clients, friends and family members have all come together to participate in what is now a cherished tradition of the NYSSCPA: Toys for Tots. The outpouring of generosity that I witness each year is truly remarkable. What started out as a small community service project has blossomed into an astonishing display of kindheartedness that reminds us all what the season is truly about. I can’t wait until Dec. 14, when I once again get to see the look of awe on the faces of the Marines as they enter the conference room filled with all of the toys collected over the last month. The Committee Chairs continue to plan interesting and valuable events for chapter members. On Nov. 7, the Young CPAs Committee hosted a Casino Night sponsored by Flushing Savings Bank. Gambling has a wide range of appeal, as over 75 individuals with diverse professional backgrounds were on hand to try their luck and network with their peers. Thank you to Christie Comunale for organizing that fun event. On Nov. 15, the Emerging Tech Committee and Small Business Committee joined forces to present New Technology Solutions in Treasury/Cash Management “Focus on Fraud.” The meeting was sponsored by Bank of America, and members were educated on new processes and systems offered by the bank that are invaluable as tools to detect and prevent fraud. Michael Muzzy, Lawrence Lucarelli and Jerome Heir worked together to bring this event to the chapter. These two meetings are a small sample of the types of events put on each month for our membership. We are so fortunate to have a chapter full of talented and dedicated individuals who take the time to plan events for the benefit of the members. There are many opportunities for all members to participate, and the chapter offers various committees serving all disciplines. All members are encouraged to attend events and serve on a committee of interest. As always, please read through the newsletter to learn of all upcoming events and happenings in the chapter.
