to Attract Top Wall Street Tax Professionals
Taxation of Financial Institutions and Products Conference: Thursday, Jan. 13 Top CPAs and attorneys in the field will come together to attend the upcoming Taxation of Financial Institutions and Products Conference. An intermediate to advanced conference, the Jan. 13 event will feature Andrea S. Kramer, a partner with the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and author of Financial Products: Taxation, Regulation, and Design, a leading treatise on financial products tax law. Attendees will also hear a discussion of tax issues for hedge funds related to lending and debt workouts by Gina M. Biondo, a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and David C. Garlock, a partner with Ernst & Young LLP. And for those who want to hear about what’s going on in the public sector, Viva Hammer, attorney-adviser to the U.S. Department of the Treasury and a very popular and sought-after speaker, will also appear, discussing the status of current developments in financial products from the Treasury and the IRS. Continuing on this theme, Paul S. Epstein, a senior technical reviewer, and Theodore D. Setzer, assistant to the branch chief, both of the Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International) of the Internal Revenue Service, will discuss international developments affecting financial products. At lunch, the attendees will be treated to an engaging discussion by Lee A. Sheppard, a senior contributing editor of Tax Notes, whose pull-no-punches weekly column is always eagerly awaited by tax practitioners. The Foundation for Accounting Education conference will cover a variety of topics, from methods for evaluating new financial products, such as credit derivatives, to the tax aspects of energy trading and energy derivatives.
