Successful Staten Island Seminars

By Mark Weg, Staten Island Chapter President

Since my last column, the Staten Island Chapter has hosted two very successful new seminars.

On Aug. 31, we held a college planning seminar entitled “College Cost, Aid, and Paying Analysis.” The speaker was Nancy Ziering, CCPS, of Madison Financial Aid Consultants, LLC.

Ziering spoke on various topics, including how to apply for federal student aid, the different types of loans available to pay for college and ways to start saving right now. I have received a great deal of positive feedback from members regarding the seminar.

On Sept. 14, we held another new seminar, entitled “Advanced QuickBooks Training 2006 and Quickbooks Year-End Review.” Intuit sent Regina Lian, President of Financial Comfort, who spoke in detail about various QuickBooks enhancements and short cuts with the 2006 program.

Most members I spoke with after the seminar said that there were definitely some new ideas that they were going to take away from the lecture and start using in their day-to-day business.

We have many events scheduled for the upcoming months, so please continue to check the Web site at www.nysscpa.org and The Trusted Professional for updated dates and times.

Don’t forget that our annual Bowl-a-Thon is scheduled for November. Also, our Membership Committee is working on a social mixer that will involve CPAs, attorneys, and bankers, so please stay tuned.

Please contact me if you are interested in attending our monthly membership meetings. The meetings are generally attended by the chapter board but are open to all chapter members.

I look forward to hearing from our members.
