It’s Back to School for the Kids and CPE for Us By Ita Rahilly, Mid Hudson Chapter President As we get into the fall season, it’s natural to feel some sense of sadness about the ending of another summer, with its vacations, family gatherings and more-relaxed pace of life. Our chapter celebrated the summer with some fun events, like the Day at the Races in Saratoga, a family evening at a Renegades baseball game and a bus trip to a Yankees game. The fall season means back to school for the kids and a new CPE season for us. If you struggled to get some last-minute CPE before the Aug. 31 deadline, don’t let that happen to you again this year. The various committees of the Mid Hudson Chapter have been working diligently to put together the fall schedule, which began with our IRS Update on Sept. 21. Representatives from the IRS were on hand to discuss various areas which are of concern to them, and consequently must be of concern to us, such as the independent contractor versus employee status and the compensation of officers of an S corporation. Our October CPE seminars include a Section 1031 like-kind exchange seminar as well as our annual ethics seminar and chapter visitation. Our November schedule will start off on Nov. 2 with an e-filing update, which will be presented by IRS and New York state representatives. We also have a full-day A & A update scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9. Our schedule offers an impressive 20+ hours of CPE before Dec. 31. The offering of low-cost, quality CPE is but one of the ways our chapter strives to meet the needs of its members, and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity by attending as many sessions as possible. Hope to see you there! Last, but certainly not least, mark your calendars now for our annual Bankers and Attorneys Dinner, which will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, at Anthony’s Pier 9.
