H&R Block Tax Prep Fees Rise 8.9 Percent

NEW YORK -- H&R Block Inc., the largest U.S. tax preparer, said on Monday it collected nearly $2.8 billion of tax preparation and related fees in the 5-1/2 months that ended April 17, up 8.9 percent from a year earlier, Reuters reported.

The Kansas City, Missouri-based company said the average fee per client in company-owned and franchised offices rose 4.7 percent to $172.32, according to Reuters.

The client base of its retail and online operations, including TaxCut software, rose 2.8 percent to 20.34 million. The company served 20.34 million clients in the period, up 2.8 percent from 19.79 million the prior year, the paper reported, Reuters reported.
