| Cuomo Deal for Some Attorneys in Pension Scandal ALBANY, N.Y. -- A dozen attorneys around the state who may have received credits for state pensions improperly but did not actually collect any money have been offered preliminary settlements by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office, Newsday reported Tuesady citing several attorneys familiar with the situation. The settlement offers include the payment of financial penalties, possibly amounting to tens of thousands of dollars, along with various agreements about conditions of future work for school districts or other governmental agencies, the sources told the paper. The possible conditions, according to the sources, range from a permanent bar on such work; a bar for a period of time; or allowing future work with an accurate description of the relationship the lawyer has with the district or agency, the paper reported. The settlement offers have been made to some who apparently are believed by the attorney general's office to be the least egregious violators of the credit system, the sources told the paper reported. -- NYSSCPA.org News Staff Posted on 4/29/08 |
