CPAs in Industry Find Success at NYSSCPA
The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants continually addresses issues affecting CPAs in Industry. The Society, its committee structure and staff work harmoniously to further the interests of this key core of our membership.
The Society offers younger and “up-and-coming” CPAs in Industry, as well as those who are experienced, various opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills and to participate in forums in which they may share their perspectives, best practices and networking ideas. Concurrently, our valued industry members are able to gain recognition within the Profession while providing top-rate services to their employer and sharing knowledge with their peers.
Members in Industry who actively participate in the Industry Division through committee service are afforded a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and solve problems, to develop and deliver continuing professional education (CPE) and to write for Society publications to share their insights with other industry members, the general membership and the public.
The Society’s educational affiliate, Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE), brings together the “best and the brightest” CPA members to research and develop CPE through the Society’s Industry and other technical standing committees. The wide array of top-notch course offerings constitute another member service and benefit—the opportunity to stay up to date and expert in your area of expertise within your industry. An industry-specific curriculum is designed with your current learning needs in mind. Participation in them frequently is like having insurance that you will grow professionally, maintain and improve your skills and empower you to meet today's challenges.
Your participation in any one of a number of ways in NYSSCPA's Industry Division’s activities is welcome. The many benefits of being a Member in Industry include: 1) the opportunity to provide Committee Service; 2) read Society publications; 3) enroll in industry-specific CPE events; 4) participate in industry-related programs of Chapters; and 5) take advantage of Society provided Affinity Programs.
Be a volunteer; contribute an article or attend a conference. Enjoy all of the many benefits that will flow from your involvement. Help to promote a favorable image of the Profession, be part of the solution to problems facing your industry, and meet your CPE requirement with education that will be “need-to-know” quality.
1) Roster of Industry Committees:
Most committees meet at NYSSCPA Headquarters in New York City with the added opportunity for teleconferencing and reimbursement to those traveling over 140 miles.
Attend a meeting on a “no-obligation” basis: listen or participate in the discussion of major issues; see our Industry Division leadership in action; and network with peers and more experienced professionals. If you agree that the benefits of participation will help you in your current position, you may join a committee as a permanent member, and have the committee experience make a difference in your lifelong success.

3) Serving the CPE Needs of CPAs in Industry
Whether actively licensed or not, CPAs in Industry have a dedication to maintaining and improving their skills to achieve success in their line of business. Industry members know the need to remain current with promulgations of FASB, AICPA, IRS, NYS and other authorities and regulators can make a difference in their work and in their companies “bottom line.”
FAE anticipates your CPE needs by utilizing the Society’s committee structure to research, develop and deliver high-quality continuing professional education for Members in Industry for an economical investment.
The knowledge base covered by CPAs in Industry is broad, and FAE delivers the training that you need in conferences, seminars and in-firm training classes that are designed with your specialized needs in mind.
Audit, accounting, finance, tax and other technical standards change rapidly. Likewise, technological advances impact the work that you do. Take advantage of the curriculum that your Society has developed through its educational affiliate every time you want, throughout the year. You can meet the CPE requirements of state licensing, while developing greatly as a professional.
Continuing education is as essential for CPAs in Industry as for those in public practice to keep abreast of the latest developments. It enables you to expand your knowledge base and to develop competencies inside and outside of your traditional skill sets.

Chapter-level participation is another rewarding option for CPAs in Industry. Certain Society chapters, such as that Nassau and Westchester, maintain committees with attendant activities related to members in industry.
5) Member Affinity Programs
NYSSCPA provides resources to industry and all members through its affinity programs that provide you with group discounts and incentives for many of the business goods and services that you might need.
The program’s benefits are provided to all Society members in good standing. Our Member Benefits Committee provides oversight and recommendations to the Board of Directors to continually maintain the program’s integrity.
