A Swedish government study has found that workers, when given a six-hour workday at an eight-hour wage, become more productive and call out sick less, according to
Bloomberg. The study examined the staff at two nursing homes, one acting as a control with a typical eight-hour day, with the other giving workers a six-hour day with no corresponding cut in pay. With data collected from both facilities over the course of a year, the study found that nurses in the experiment group were nearly three times less likely to take time off in any given two-week period. It also found that nurses were 20 percent happier and had more energy, both at work and at home. They also did 64 percent more activities with elderly residents, which the study used as a measure of productivity.
