Licensed under CC BY 3.0 via Wikimedia CommonsIt was only a matter of time: Otskua Pharmaceutical, the company that makes a sports drink called Pocari Sweat, has announced that it will be the first company to put advertising on the moon, according to CNBC. While the concept itself is not new, it's far less grandiose than, say, etching a message on the lunar surface to remind everyone looking up at the night sky of your great product. Instead, the company plans to simply place a single can of its sports drink on the moon, piggybacking on the planned SpaceX mission to land a rover near a giant crater called Bürg. It is the hope that, eventually, someone who was a child when the can was launched will, in the future, go to the moon, find the beverage, and drink it. While the specific cost of this venture has remained secret, CNBC notes that it costs about $1.2 million per kilo to get something onto the moon, and said that the company likely paid more than that for the ad.
