Arthur J. Roth, Former NY Tax Commissioner, NYSSCPA Board Member, Dies at 77

Arthur J. Roth, a former NYSSCPA board member, died suddenly August 6 in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to the Albany Times Union. Roth had served asroth deputy commissioner of the state Department of Taxation and Finance from 1996 to 1999, and then went on to serve as commissioner of Taxation and Finance from 1999 to 2003. Prior to his government career, he was the senior consulting director of what was then Coopers and Lybrand, and director of its Financial Advisory Practice for Upstate New York before that. 

Roth was deeply involved with the NYSSCPA. He served as Northeast Chapter president from 1982 to 1983, and then on the Society Board of Directors from 1984 to 1986. He served again on the board from 2013 to 2015. He was also a longtime member of the New York, Multistate and Local Taxation Committee, serving every year from the year 2000 on.
