A recent survey has found that more than a third of Americans, 34 percent, live entirely from paycheck to paycheck with no savings at all, according to CNBC. Things aren't that much better for everyone else. The survey, which was conducted by personal finance website GoBankingRates, found that 35 percent would not be able to tolerate a even a small shock to their finances, as they have less than $1,000 in savings. Those who can are in the minority: 11 percent have between $1,000 to $4,999 saved, 4 percent have between $5,000 and $9,999 saved, and 15 percent have $10,000 or more saved up. Meanwhile, according to the same CNBC article, 22 percent of people say they didn't save nearly enough for retirement and 16 percent said they didn't save enough for emergency expenses.
