How to Achieve the Work-Life Balance You Want

Balancing Three RocksWhile being a CPA might at times require you to prioritize work over your personal life, it’s important in any profession to maintain a balance between your work and personal life. Depending on your specialization and what time of year it is, you may face different obstacles that impede on that balance, but here are a few tips from Entrepreneur to help you overcome them:

Make a routine. Creating healthy habits like a weekly game of catch with the kids or catch-up lunch with friends can greatly benefit you by reducing stress, according to social psychologist Wendy Wood of the University of Southern California.

Say “no.” Your time is only as valuable as you consider it to be. If you say yes to every favor asked of you, people will learn that your time is less valuable and continue to infringe on your personal time. Only take on what you know you can afford to – or you might look like the bad guy for flaking on someone you love.

Include personal time in your schedule. Schedule time for yourself, your family, and your friends when you plan out your calendar. Don’t just make sure you’re there for the big things like birthdays, but also that you include time for just casual time with your loved ones.
