NextGen Committee

The objective of this committee is to encourage and promote the participation those members that our new to the profession. It should strive to be a means of increasing the interest and involvement of new CPAs in the Society, and to increase the profile of CPAs in the community. To achieve this goal, the committee should focus on soliciting feedback from new CPAs in public, private, and governmental practice to determine what they expect from the NYSSCPA and what they would like the NYSSCPA to do to help them in furthering their careers. The committee should then decide upon the best course of action to help meet these needs. The committee should focus on the recruitment of newly licensed CPAs, CPA Candidates and Students.

The following is a list of some of the activities sponsored by NYSSCPA chapter NextGen committees. Please note that chapters not included on this list also host NextGen events:

  • The Buffalo Chapter hosts a variety of functions, from Wine Fests, high school visits, and a Young CPA scholarship program.
  • The Manhattan/Bronx Chapter has hosted many successful Young CPA networking events. They include jazz nights, museum outings, and gatherings with other professional organizations.
  • The Mid –Hudson Chapter Young CPAs reach out to new members and invite them to attend chapter events.  They also host an after Tax Season Spring Mixer.
  •  Nassau Chapter Young CPAs participated in a community walk named Out of Darkness t0 benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. They had some fun by attending a New York Islanders hockey game.  In December the Young CPAs presented a Happy Hour Networking Event at the Savannah Club.
  • Syracuse Chapter Young CPAs hosted several events the Wine Tour (in conjunction with the Buffalo and Rochester Young CPAs), Networking at Ambrosia, Food Drive for the Food Bank of Central New York , Christmas Party, Crunch Night and a Book Drive.
  • Suffolk Chapter Young CPA hosted a wine tasting and networking reception, Young Professionals Golf Classic, Student Night and a Semi-annual Networking Night.
  • Westchester sponsors a Christmas Comes Early toy drive at a local children’s hospital.

NextGen committees are encouraged to host the following types of events:

  • Summertime happy hour and mixers
  • Boat rides, bus trips, and museum visits
  • Golf outings
  • Baseball outing
  • Toys for children charity drives
  • CPE sessions
