The NYSSCPA would like to thank Nassau Chapter member Scott Sanders for being a 2016-2017 Chapter Champion!

By Anthony Basile Ph.D., CPA, CVA, CFE

Nassau Chapter President

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, spending it with loved ones fulfilled with all that we are thankful for. Now, we enter the holiday season, a wonderful but busy time of year.

The Student CPAfest on November 2 at Chateau Briand was a resounding success. There were over 150 students registered from 15 different colleges, some as far as SUNY Albany and Connecticut participating in the workshops, panel discussion, and job fair. Five CPA Review firms gave away 10 free CPA Review courses. There were 15 firms collecting resumes that are now interviewing students for internships and full-time employment.

The Accounting and Auditing Committee held its joint Nassau/Suffolk All-Day meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Brentwood on November 10. For the first time, this year’s event was held on a Friday instead of the weekend and the attendance was great! Thank you to co-Chairs Mark Cuccia, Tina Romano, and Franco Martorana.

On November 28, our annual Attorney Accountant Mixer event took place at a new venue, the Fox Hollow Inn. This year we again raised money and collected food for the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN). Thank you to committee co-chair Kristina Albarella and Kathleen Becker for their hard work in planning a phenomenally successful event.

Our chapter’s All-Day Taxation Conference will be held on December 2 and 3 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale. With all the changes going on with the proposals from the House and Senate on almost a daily basis, this year’s topics promise to be both interesting and possibly surprising. This event will feature speakers such as Neil Katz, Eric Kramer, Robert Barnett, Karen Tenenbaum, Yvonne Cort, and Scott Sanders.

On January 11, 2018, our Women’s Focus Group is having a post holiday cocktail party at the Garden City Hotel. Thank you to co-chairs Geri Gregor, Natalie Verbanac, and Liz Oberg for planning the event.

On January 25, 2018, our Networking with Accountants Committee will be hosting its semi-annual joint event with the Suffolk Chapter at the Fox Hollow Inn. Last year at this new venue was a huge success and this year promises to be even better.

Our annual Town Hall and Ethics event will take place on January 31, 2018 at Chateau Briand. This is also the meeting where our members vote on the new slate of officers. As in the past, we will hold the managing partners’ meeting before the event.

Please save the date for our 2018 Installation Dinner, which is set for May 30, 2018 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. This year we have new offerings for sponsorship. Please consider the discounts set and the deadlines in the flyer in this newsletter.

As you can see, our Chapter has a very ambitious schedule of meetings and events so that Chapter membership can benefit from all that we try to do to continually improve it. I would like to take this time now to thank all the Committee Chairs for volunteering their time and efforts to administer the events during the year. Your efforts make the Nassau Chapter one of if not the most active chapter in the NYSSCPA.

Please remember the Robert Katz Endowment at Hofstra, see page 8 of our December newsletter for the information. Checks can be made payable to Hofstra University – memo line Katz Endowment or online at: www.hofstra.edu/katzendowment. (Please check with your employer about your company’s matching gift policy.)

Please review the newsletter for more information on these and other events that we have coming up. I want to encourage our members to try to attend as many seminars and events as possible and visit our Chapter website, www.nysscpa.org/nassau.

Please feel free to email me at abasile@basilecpa.com with any thoughts or suggestions you have for improving our chapter and I will bring the suggestions directly to our Board for consideration. I am happy to help in any way I can.

Thank you all for the honor of serving as your President. I want to wish you and your families all the very best at this special time of year and all the joy the holiday season brings. I also wish you all a happy, prosperous and healthy 2018.

Sincerely,

Anthony Basile Ph.D., CPA, CVA, CFE
