Financial Accounting Standards Committee

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING STANDARDS COMMITTEE
ACTION PLAN

Who we are:

The Committee is responsible for preparing response letters for the Society to proposals from the:

  • Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
  • Accounting Standards Executive Committee (AcSEC) of the AICPA

What we do:

The Committee encourages discussion of current accounting developments through:

  • Annual meetings with representatives of the FASB and AcSEC.
  • Periodic updates on “pipeline” issues at FASB, AcSEC, etc.
  • Discussion of technical inquiries
  • Joint activities with industry committees

The Committee also prepares articles for the Society publications, and members serve as editors for the Accounting Department of the CPA Journal and disseminate information on emerging topics. The Committee also sponsors educational sessions on emerging issues and posts “Hot Topics” to the Society’s website, www.nysscpa.org.

Who should join:

  • Anyone interested in impacting developing accounting standards. Standard-setters do consider our input!
  • Anyone involved in quality assurance and consultation functions
  • If you want to impact the views of others
  • If you’re open to learning from others
  • If you want to benefit from sharing day-to-day experience from fellow CPAs
  • If you can help the members through writing articles and preparing educational sessions
  • If you want to bring fresh viewpoints to your Chapter members? If necessary, chapter representatives can participate through teleconference.
  • If you want to liaison with industry Committees?
