| Northeast Chapter Boasts New CFO Committee By Angela Colvin Northeast Chapter President Our October CPE session on the new accountancy reform law, which was combined with our annual Town Hall Meeting, was very well attended. NYSSCPA Executive Director Lou Grumet and Deputy Executive Director Joanne Barry, as well as NYSSCPA President Dave Moynihan and President-Elect Margaret Wood, spoke about the new law and its implications for New York CPAs. The session was very informative. The Northeast Chapter has recently introduced a new committee to its members, the CFO Committee, designed to teach controllers the additional skills they'll need to become Chief Financial Officer. Following a CPE session, the new committee kicked off its first meeting with a luncheon. At the same time, in a separate room, 24 golfers had lunch before participating in our annual golf outing. A good time was had by all. Our Young CPAs are in the middle of a food drive, meanwhile, where firms are requested to put out a box to collect food donations from staff. Someone from the committee will be collecting all of the boxes on Nov. 20 to deliver them to Parsons Inc. If you have yet to make arrangements for a pick up, you can contact Eric Scaringe. The Northeast Chapter's free ethics CPE session will be held on Nov. 17 at the Normanside Country Club, located at 150 Salisbury Road, Delmar, N.Y.; this will be followed by the CPA/Bankers Dinner. Remember, every CPA is required to have four ethics credits in a three-year period. Our annual tax update, meanwhile, will also be held on Dec. 3 at the Normanside Country Club. Please look for the e-mail with all the registration details. Finally, on Dec. 17, the Young CPAs will be hosting Toys for Tots at Jillian's, located at 59 North Pearl Street, Albany, N.Y. Please bring either a toy or a donation and stop in to say hello. Angela Colvin can be reached at acolvin@wojeskico.com. Click here for a list of the Northeast Chapter's past presidents. |
