Subject: Information for 2010 COAP Program
By attending a Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program on a college campus and interacting with other students who share similar interests, students are provided with an invaluable preview of college life. COAP also encourages attendees to think beyond college and learn about the business world. Sessions about the accounting profession, financial analysis, networking and rapport and computer literacy are all part of the COAP curriculum.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit corporations and local accounting firms to learn more about the business world. Professional accountants from the capital district conduct many of the COAP sessions which are designed to introduce students to the field of accounting.
During COAP, students participate in personal development exercises which include topics such as goal setting, networking, resume writing, dressing for success, dining etiquette, and communication skills.
Recruitment for COAP is focused on groups historically underrepresented in the CPA profession. Please feel free to make as many copies of the application are needed.
A typical COAP day might include:
- Accounting overview and career opportunities discussion
- Technology in business and accounting lecture
- CPA firm field trip to accounting firms and private companies
- Interviewing skills workshop
- College preparation - tips for success
- Preparing resumes- question and answer session
COAP programs are held the last week of June and first week of July. For more information about COAP, send us an e-mail at coap@nysscpa.org
