City Staffers Allegedly Defrauded Taxpayers

NEW YORK -- Two city council staffers were arrested and charged Wednesday in a budget scandal sending shockwaves through City Hall, according to WNBC News.

Staff members Asquith Reid, former Chief of Staff to Brooklyn Councilman Kendall Stewart, and Joycinth Anderson have been arrested and charged on mail fraud and money laundering charges, according to WNBC.

Investigators said Reid and Anderson helped misappropriate taxpayer funds to certain community organizations. The pair allegedly misappropriated funds associated with the "Donna Reid Memorial Education Fund," WNBC reported.

Officials said the pair is now in custody at the U.S. District Courthouse, according to WNBC.
