Bush Set to Nominate SEC Democrats

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration is expected to announce on Friday that it intends to nominate two securities lawyers to fill vacancies on the five-member Securities and Exchange Commission, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Luis Aguilar, a partner with the law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge in Atlanta, and Elisse Walter, a senior vice president at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, are the two Democrats that President Bush intends to nominate, the paper reported citing a senior Bush administration official.

If confirmed by the Senate, Aguilar would fill the seat previously held by Annette Nazareth, giving him a term that expires in 2012, while Walter would serve until mid-2010, finishing the remaining term of former commissioner Roel Campos, the paper reported.
