New Leader Appointed at Roosevelt Schools
MELVILLE, N.Y.
-- State Education Commissioner Richard Mills assigned an educational
trouble-shooter from Long Island Monday to take over much of the
Roosevelt
school district's administration temporarily, Newsday
reported.
Mills appointed
William Brosnan, a former Northport school superintendent, to take
charge of scheduling next fall's classes and other transitional
duties, at least until July 1. By then, Mills hopes to appoint a
permanent replacement for the superintendent, Ronald Ross, who is
resigning under fire, the paper reported.
If a replacement
cannot be found, Brosnan will continue up to a year as Roosevelt's
interim superintendent, state education officials say. Candidates
for the permanent slot are expected to be interviewed later this
week, the paper reported.
Brosnan is now
executive director of the Long Island Regional School Support Center
in Holbrook, a state office that works with local districts struggling
to raise test scores. Brosnan took the post after retiring from
Northport last year, the paper reported.
