Roslyn Hires New Superintendent

MINEOLA, N.Y. -- A permanent superintendent has been appointed at the Roslyn school district on Long Island, nearly three years after the former superintendent resigned amid a multimillion-dollar embezzlement scandal, The Associated Press reported Monday.

The new superintendent, John Richman, currently the school superintendent in nearby Plainedge, will take over in Roslyn on July 1, Newsday reported on Saturday.

Richman said he hoped to help the district move past the scandal, in which state auditors found that $11 million was embezzled between 1996 and 2004, the pape reported.

Six people pleaded guilty in the scandal, including former school officials. Since 2004, the district has been led by interim superintendents, the AP reported.
