Roosevelt Board Cuts Services, $300G in Jobs

MELVILLE, N.Y. -- With one dissenting vote, Roosevelt's state-appointed school board cut about $300,000 in administrative jobs and student services Thursday night and approved the sale of a district-owned Mini Cooper car once used by the superintendent, Newsday reported.

The cuts are part of $500,000 in reductions ordered by State Education Commissioner Richard Mills as part of efforts to deal with the district's projected $12.3-million budget deficit, the paper reported.
