Bush Stumps for Social Security in Ky.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- President Bush challenged lawmakers from both parties on Thursday to embrace ideas for changing Social Security or answer to their constituents, The Associated Press reported.

''I don't think that's fair to younger generations of Americans, not to have political courage and deal with the problem,'' Bush said at Hopkinsville Christian County Conference and Convention Center, surrounded by farm fields that stretch for miles.

As he has at every stop on his Social Security road show, Bush reassured senior citizens that if they currently get a check, they'll keep getting it.

''I keep saying that, because I understand the politics of Social Security,'' Bush said. ''If you don't want to get anything done, all you gotta do is go around the country trying to scare seniors. And then the seniors will say to the members of Congress, ‘Please don't do anything.'''
