| Enron Examiner Allowed to Return to Job NEW YORK -- A federal judge allowed the court-appointed examiner in the Enron Corp. case to return to his law firm now that the final report on the massive bankruptcy is complete, but he postponed a hearing on two other requests that drew objections from creditors and other parties, The Associated Press reported Thursday. At a hearing in New York Thursday, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Arthur Gonzalez also granted a request from the examiner, Neal Batson, that he and his associates be free from liability in connection with the reports they submitted on the case. But a hearing on two other requests that Batson made was postponed until Dec. 18 after lawyers from Enron and its creditors objected. Dennis Connolly, a lawyer representing Batson, told the judge that the various parties would discuss their differences in the meantime. The requests that drew fire include a proposal that would protect Batson and his team from having to produce documents or be questioned by third parties, as well as a request to destroy the large amount of documents that Batson and his team has gathered. -- NYSSCPA.org News Staff Posted on 12/5/03 |
