New Accounting Board Chief May Need Convincing

WASHINGTON -- It may take some persuading to get the ideal candidate to become head of the board set up to oversee the accounting industry, the Securities and Exchange Commission chairman said Thursday, according to The Associated Press.

The agency is accepting nominations for the position through Friday and has a list of more than 400 names.

"Very good names and some not so good," said William H. Donaldson. "We're going to do it just as quick as we can," he said.

Potential candidates for chairman will face strict background reviews by the SEC. In addition, Donaldson noted, the ideal candidate is "probably very happy where he or she is" and will take some convincing.
