Hurricane Katrina Tax Relief

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast with a vengeance in August 2005, Congress acted to provide tax relief for its victims with the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005. Advisors should familiarize themselves with the act’s provisions and make efforts to determine who can benefit from it.

Treasurer: Lay, Skilling OKd Off-Books Financing

HOUSTON -- Ben Glisan, who was Enron Corp.'s treasurer, testified this week that former Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling and former Enron Chief Executive Kenneth Lay approved the use of off-the-books financing to hide Enron Corp.'s losses from auditors and investors.

KPMG Revises Terms of Payout in Settlement

NEW YORK -- KPMG and law firm Sidley Austin LLP agreed to a new settlement in the class-action lawsuit related to the sale of questionable tax shelters, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
