Get 'Behind the Scenes of Auditing at FAE Conference
By Nyasha Foy Posted on 9/4/08 NEW YORK -- Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at major supervisory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the United States Treasury Department? FAE's Auditing Conference in October will offer a chance to peek into the minds of rulemakers at those agencies, as well as at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB). The conference, which will be held on Oct. 27 at the FAE Conference Center in New York City, offers an opportunity for auditors, accountants and financial executives to learn how to apply the latest standards to real-life auditing and accounting situations. "The conference is structured to give practitioners the most information in the shortest amount of time, said Conference Chair Robert N. Waxman, chair of the NYSSCPA's Auditing Standards Committee. "CPAs [who want] maximum exposure to what's happening today in auditing and what to expect in the future in the least amount of time -- this is the conference to attend." Participants will be able to learn enough about FIN 48 to alleviate, or at least, reduce its pain, and a discussion will detail the benefits of computer assisted audit software. A presentation will also explain how protect your firm and reputation, and avoid litigation. Speakers include:
Two auditing panels will be held. Both will feature Society members Gil Avnit, Jack Georger, Jr., Jan Herringer and Warren Ruppel. The second panel session will include an FAQ and question-and-answer period. Accountant's malpractice will be vetted by John Raspante, national account advisor for Camico Mutual Insurance Co. Computer-assisted audit techniques will be explained by Society members Andrew E. Carroll and Michael A. Pinna, and auditing of income taxes will be the topic of a discussion by NYSSCPA member Richard T. Van Osten. Participants will receive 8 CPE credits in auditing. Please click here
