NEW YORK – (February 18, 2016) – College is expensive for most people. More than 85 percent of the 10.6 million students enrolled in a four-year university in 2015 were receiving some form of financial aid, according to the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCESS).
The Westchester Chapter of the New York State Society of CPAs wants to help parents and students, preparing for college, learn more about how to search, find and apply for resources.
The group will host their Annual College Planning Event this coming Thursday, Feb. 25 at The Centre at Purchase, located on 4 Manhattanville Road, in Purchase, N.Y.
This free event, beginning at 5:45 p.m., will be led by the NYSSCPA’s Gary Carpenter, CPA, owner of College Planning Services, and Al Hoffman, director of the College Funding Service Center (CFSC). Both college planning experts will share insights on topics to include the college admission process; college costs and scholarships; the financial aid application process, educational tax benefits and 529 college plans.
“This is our fifth annual college planning event and each one has been very well received,” said William Zeboris, CPA and partner with Citrin Cooperman and a member of the Westchester Chapter of the NYSSCPA.
“Most parents are concerned about how to pay for their child’s college education and are curious about the types of loans that are available for their child while other parents are concerned about the transition of their child becoming a college freshman,” Zeboris said.
All attendees will receive a free handbook: “College Checklist and Timeline for Applying to College.”
Refreshments will be served. All guests are asked to pre-register by contacting Cheryl Garippa at cgarippa@citrincooperman.com or (914) 949-2990 ext. 3353.
Media contacts who are interested in attending, please contact Maya Lindsay, mlindsay@nysscpa.org.
This event is part of the NYSSCPA’s ongoing Get Money Smart financial literacy initiative, where Society members volunteer to their time and share their expertise in a number of free public service programs related to money, financial planning and literacy.
