NEW YORK, NY, May 10, 2012 – The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) installed David Evangelista, CPA of Stony Point, New York, as a Vice President at its 115th Annual Election Meeting & Dinner held today at the New York Marriott Marquis at Times Square. Evangelista is a partner with MSPC Certified Public Accountants & Advisors, P.C. (New York, NY & Cranford, NJ) responsible for the management and supervision of audit, accounting and tax clients in the public and private sector. He also heads MSPC’s Litigation Support Practice.
Evangelista, a NYSSCPA member since 1988, served as a member of its Board of Directors and Political Action Committee (PAC) Board of Trustees. He was also a member of its Finance and Public Schools committees and its CPA Exam Task Force.
He was the first President of its Rockland Chapter, where he continues to serve on the Executive Board and as Government Relations Director. He was also Co-Chair of the chapter’s Furtherance/Nominating committee and a member of the chapter’s PAC. He also served the NYSSCPA Mid-Hudson chapter as chair of its Not-for-Profit/Government committee and as a member of its Accounting & Careers committee.
He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He served AICPA as a member of the founding Executive Committee of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center, a member of the National Employee Benefit Plans committee and its various task forces, and the National Employee Benefits Plans Government Plans Resources Task Force. He was a chair of its annual National Employee Benefits Plans Conference and Annual Benefit Plans and DOL Update Conference.
Evangelista is a former member of U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, also known as the ERISA Advisory Council. The 15 member council provides advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) to the U.S. Secretary of Labor.
Evangelista is a frequent speaker at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans Annual National Employee Benefit Conference, Trustees and Administrators Institute, Benefit Plan Professionals Institute, Fraud Institute and Investment Institute, and has also spoken at the American Bar Association Joint Committee on Employee Benefits/AICPA International Conference.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation in Suffern, New York.
Evangelista is a graduate of The Wharton School of Business of The University of Pennsylvania and holds a bachelor of science degree in economics, with a concentration in accounting. He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the University of Pennsylvania’s Westchester/Rockland Alumni Chapter and is currently co-chairperson of its Rockland/Orange Counties Secondary School Committee. He is also Assistant to the Director and Coordinator of Press Relations/Operations and Results for the Penn Relays Carnival. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America in 1979.
He resides in Stony Point, New York with his wife Margret Jonsson Evangelista, an attorney in private practice, and their two children.
