President's Message
Committee membership confers great benefits, little time commitment

By Eileen F. Hamlin, Utica Chapter President.

Now that we are at that wonderful day of April 15, I hope everyone's busy season went well. Hopefully we will have some beautiful spring weather, as everyone will now have the time to enjoy it.

Our annual meeting with bankers and attorneys on March 19 at the Yahnundasis Golf Club went well. We enjoyed listening to local businessman Tom Clark reflect on his experiences in the Mohawk Valley. Although this took place at a very busy time of the year, it was a nice break from accounting work to network with professionals, many of whom we deal with in our community or on behalf of our clients.

Our Chapter is in need of members interested in serving as an officer or assisting with a committee. The time commitment is not overwhelming and the benefits of working with our statewide organization are extremely rewarding. I would encourage anyone interested in this to please contact me.

Utica Chapter Seeks Career Day Volunteers

Members of the Utica Chapter are available to schools in Central New York to discuss accounting as a career. We hope to provide area schools with a contact person in the accounting profession which can benefit the students we reach, as well as our profession.

Volunteer contact people are asked to provide information about accounting careers and make short presentations to high school and college students.

For Central New York High School Teachers Seeking School Visits By Accounting Professionals

Dear high school teachers:

Representatives from the Utica Chapter of the New York State Society of CPAs are ready and willing to talk to students from various high schools in the Central New York region about considering a career in the accounting profession.
We accomplish this by speaking to individual classes, at school assemblies, and participating in career day activities. Our presentations are sure to be well received by students and teachers alike.

If you are interested in having accounting professionals talk to your high school class about accounting careers during the 2008-2009 academic year, please e-mail your request file (click here to download form) to me, Bob Ritz, NYSSCPA Student Recruiter, at rritz@darcangelocny.com and I will make the follow up arrangements.
