24 at SEC Caught Porn Surfing at Work
More than two dozen workers at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have been investigated for looking at porn during work hours over the past two years. One, a regional supervisor, was found to have tried to take more than 1,800 porn breaks in the span of 17 days, admitting to investigators that it was kind of distracting. According to the investigation, however, such sites were blocked at work. Clearly, however, this regional supervisor remained undeterred.
Perhaps it was an attempt to better understand the trends that are shaping today’s economy; according to this Newsweek article, the number of people viewing porn at work increased by 23 percent in 2008, a fact attributed mostly to the slow economy.
This story, of course, represents only a very small fraction of the total number of the otherwise fine, upstanding people employed by the SEC who, for entirely unrelated reasons, managed to miss catching Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff on multiple occasions. I wonder what it was they were doing?
