Albany Daily Covers Reform Law

The Albany Times Union took a break from coverage of legislative shenanigans to write about the accounting reform law in an article that ran in Sunday’s paper. Lou Grumet and Albany-based CPAs Marilyn Pendergast and Kevin McCoy were quoted.

Here’s an excerpt:
“The state is not changing the way CPAs obtain their licenses, which are awarded after a person passes an exam and has enough experience in the profession. The new law will require -- as auditors do now -- that most CPAs register with the Education Department every three years.

“New York has licensed about 99,000 CPAs since 1987, Grumet said, but he is unsure of how many are now practicing. Some 34,000 are registered, and the society estimates another 26,000 to 36,000 CPAs are working today in the state.”
