NYSSPCA Members Make Media Splash

With year-end approaching (only 60 days to go!), taxes are the talk of the town -- and who is the media looking to for advice?

NYSSCPA members, of course!

FOX Business News talked to both Scott Cheslowitz and Alan Straus in two separate segments focused on taxes, both available on the Web.

Cheslowitz, vice chair of the Society's Tax Division Oversight Committee, dicussed the benefits of early preparation and tax projections in his segment. "A tax return should be the culmination of all the hard work and planning done within the year," he told the show's anchors. Cheslowitz also talked about the alternative minimum tax and unemployment benefits, noting that the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits are not taxable this year. He said although everyone "was hoping that benefit would be more robust ... it's something."

Straus explained the rules of charitable deductions in his segment, which also gave a nod to the NYSSCPA's Relations With the Internal Revenue Service Committee. Straus was also quoted in an Oct. 27 CNN Money story about year-end tax moves.
