If you are interested in serving on The Moynihan Scholarship Fund (MSF) Board of Trustees, now is the time to submit your nomination. 

Established in 2015, MSF honors the memory of NYCPA Past President David J. Moynihan (1955–2015), a staunch advocate for educational opportunities.  MSF, a 501(c)(3) organization and an affiliated entity of the NYCPA, supports the education and development of high school and college students in New York state and facilitates their exposure to accounting and business careers. In FY2024, the MSF awarded 70 scholarships totaling $159,600. 
 
MSF is governed by a nine-person Board of Trustees, several seats of which are filled by past or present members of the Society Board of Directors in accordance with the MSF bylaws.  At least two trustee positions, however, with one- or three-year terms, are available to others. Generally, there is one one-year term, filled by the Society Board, and one three-year term, filled by the MSF board, open each year. Candidates for consideration are recommended by the Selections Subcommittee. 

Trustee responsibilities 

MSF trustees typically meet four times a year to conduct the business of the Fund. They are responsible for leading the mission, goals and objectives of the organization; approval of the MSF budget; raising funds and overseeing strategies for program diversification and effectiveness. There is no compensation for service on the MSF board. 

Eligibility requirements 

According to the MSF bylaws, to serve on the MSF board, a prospective candidate must be a CPA and a member in good standing of the NYCPA. Trustees are appointed based on their interest and ability to contribute to the goals of the Fund. Trustee selection, to the extent possible, represents a cross section of the Society’s membership, in terms of geography and areas of professional practice. 

How to submit a nomination 

Those interested in serving should send an email to the attention of NYCPA President-elect Kevin Matz at presidentelect@nysscpa.org by Jan. 10, 2025, at 12 p.m. (EST). The email should include a résumé and a statement of interest and ability to contribute to the goals of the Fund. Candidate information will be forwarded to the Selections Subcommittee of the NYCPA Board of Directors, which will propose names of individuals to fill the MSF vacancies to the NYCPA and MSF boards.
