For those who are ready to strengthen their leadership skills and make meaningful change in their career, self-awareness is foundational.
“Self-awareness is critical to developing emotional intelligence and enhancing your leadership,” said Jennifer Wilson, partner and co-founder of ConvergenceCoaching, LLC.
Wilson will lead the NYCPA NextGen Leaders Institute program starting Sept. 24, where attendees participate in interactive virtual workshops, self-assessments, and real-world practice assignments. The six-month program will give participants the chance to apply what they’ve learned immediately and develop relationships with their cohort.
“It is very ‘one-size-fits-one' and no one leaves without both personal insights and practical strategies they can apply to make refinements and grow as leaders,” Wilson said.
Strong leaders are critical to attract more young talent to accounting, she said, especially with the profession facing immense change. The image of the profession will be shaped by those who inspire others and are willing to take risks, all critical parts to being a leader in today’s fast-paced business environment.
In previous years leading this program, Wilson said she often sees participants become better able to recognize where they fall short in their leadership, specifically around delegation and control. Through the monthly sessions, they can recognize these tendencies and find better insight into their own leadership strengths and how those translate to motivate others.
“All people have an impact on those they work with no matter their title,” Wilson said. “Being intentional to more positively impact others will enable you to drive change in any group and bring real joy to your career journey.”
