Committees
A
Letter From NYSSCPA President-Elect Jeffrey R. Hoops
As
you know, the accounting profession has been undergoing and is continuing
to undergo substantial change in practically all areas. As President-Elect
of the State Society, I am offering each of you an opportunity to
participate in molding that change, change that will undoubtedly
affect all of us.
The Society
has over 60 statewide committees that cover all areas of the profession.
Our comprehensive structure, designed to better meet the needs of
all our members, is composed of six divisions, four of which reflect
the current practice specialty areas of professionals in private
practice and industry. Additionally, one is geared to the future
enhancement of the profession, and one focuses on the operations
of the Society.
The committees serve the members of the Society,
promote a favorable image of the profession in the eyes of the general
public, and create a forum where members can interact with their
peers and discuss the important issues facing our Society and the
profession. The Society relies on the time and dedication of committee
members to carry out its extensive professional and educational
activities. Those appointed to a committee enjoy the prestige of
having a significant influence on both the profession and the Society.
You will benefit personally from the opportunity to develop technical,
professional, and leadership skills and to expand the network of
your peer contacts.
I invite you to serve on a committee during my term
as President of the Society. There is a lot to be gained by you,
the Society, and our profession.
Jeffrey R.
Hoops, President-Elect

Conference
Calls
If you find that traveling to the Society offices
for a committee meeting conflicts with fulfilling the rest of your
day’s commitments, you need not miss out on the benefits of
the meeting. You can conference in, now more easily than ever. The
Society has available conference phones with satellite speakers
and microphones and dial-in conference call services for committee
members to use for meetings held at the Society. Just contact the
Society’s Manager of Committee Services at 212-719-8358 for
confirmation and availability.
Eligibility
to Serve on a Committee
All New York
State Society of Certified Public Accountants members both CPA and
associate members throughout the state are encouraged to apply for
committee service. Some senior committees have a prerequisite of
prior committee service (noted with *) or prior committee chair
service (noted with ^). Members can serve
on more than one committee.
You will be
formally notified of acceptance of your application to serve on
a committee upon approval of the chair of the committee and
the appointments subcommittee. The committee year runs
from June 1st to May 31st.
Members
Currently Serving on Committees
Reapplication
to serve your committee no longer is necessary. Members currently
serving on committees now are automatically carried over to the
next committee year unless they notify the Society that they do
not wish to continue or if they receive a “Do Not Reappoint”
assessment from the committee chair.

the year that qualify for one hour of CPE credit. To learn more
